Don't complain about burnt toast!
Hello Stampin Sistas!
Yep, it has been a while since I posted anything on the blog. I don't have new stampin projects to show today. But I do have a story that I thought of that might encourage us all to not worry about the little things.
As I made my toast this morning, I noticed with dismay (after I made my toast) that the toaster had been turned up. I grumbled to myself about people not putting things back the way they find them and went on.
Then I was reminded (by the Holy Spirit, I am certain) of my wonderful grandpa. My grandpa died in Feb of 05. Just a few days shy of his 95th birthday. He had outlived two wives and was currently married. He was a very old fashioned gentleman. He opened doors, did ALL the driving, and never uttered a curse word in front of a lady.
He and my grandma were married for over 53 years. She died at the age of 69 due to complications of a broken ankle. I believe I was about 13 at the time.
Soon after her funeral, my father talked Grandpa into coming to Idaho for a while. Not wanting to be alone in a house where he'd never before been alone, Grandpa agreed.
As my mom began preparing his breakfast one morning after arriving home, Grandpa watched her quietly. Grandpa ate the same thing every day. Eggs, instant coffee and black toast. As she popped the toast in the toaster and turned up the setting, my Grandpa said, "Honey, could you not make my toast so dark?"
Stunned, my mom turned around and said, "But Elmer that is the way you have ALWAYS had it!"
"I know" replied Grandpa. "Grandma burned it every day for over 53 years. But because I never wanted to hurt her feelings, I did not tell her that I didn't like it that way."
IN OVER 53 YEARS MY GRANDPA NEVER COMPLAINED ABOUT BURNT TOAST!
It is my prayer that we all learn from my Grandpa and learn not to complain about something so minor as burnt toast.
Have a great and blessed day!
